Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) Program

Under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allocated 70,000 Emergency Housing Vouchers to public housing agencies nationwide. EHV awards were announced on June 10, 2021, at which time the City of Hawthorne Housing Authority was awarded 67 vouchers.

EHVs are one of the many resources available to help communities work toward ending homelessness. The EHV Program is designed to assist specifically those who are homeless, recently homeless, at risk of homelessness, or fleeing domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking.

How to Apply

If you meet one of the above criteria, you may apply for an Emergency Housing Voucher through a Los Angeles County homeless service provider. If you are not currently connected with a homeless service provider, please call 2-1-1 to be connected to the appropriate services.

In order to ensure those most in need are assisted first, HUD requires a partnership with Continuum of Care providers or other affiliated organizations for direct referrals. Upon receipt of a referral from a partnering agency, the City of Hawthorne Housing Authority will make a determination of eligibility for the referred family or individual to receive an Emergency Housing Voucher.
