The City of Hawthorne is thrilled to announce the 2024 Juneteenth Celebration at Memorial Park on Saturday, June 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This annual event commemorates the historic emancipation of enslaved African Americans and reaffirms our ongoing commitment to the pursuit of equality and justice.

Families can enjoy a variety of activities, from face painting to exploring local crafts at vendor booths. Attendees can also indulge in a diverse array of culinary delights from a delicious selection of local food trucks.

The celebration will take place at Hawthorne Memorial Park, located at 3901 W. El Segundo Blvd., Hawthorne, CA 90250. For more information, please call (310) 349-1640,

This celebration serves as a testament to Hawthorne's dedication to fostering unity, diversity, and inclusivity. By honoring our shared history and heritage, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a future where every individual is valued and respected.

As summer gets into full swing, it's essential to remember that only safe and sane fireworks are permitted within the City of Hawthorne. Illegal fireworks pose significant risks, and the City enforces strict regulations to protect residents and visitors. Let's also consider the well-being of pets and veterans with PTSD, as fireworks can cause distress and harm.

While Hawthorne may not be hosting a firework show, it's crucial to practice safety if you attend celebrations in other cities where fireworks might be allowed. Look for the "safe and sane" symbol when purchasing fireworks, and always handle them responsibly. Remember, fireworks should only be used on the Fourth of July, between 12 p.m. and 10 p.m. in Hawthorne. Those found using illegal fireworks may face fines of up to $1000.

Let's celebrate responsibly and ensure a safe and enjoyable summer for everyone in our community, no matter where the festivities take us. Learn more about local fireworks safety at hawthornepolice.com/fireworks and stay tuned for information about our upcoming summer events at special-events
